Hello! My name is Josiah Wolf. I am an instructor and active musician with over 15 years teaching experience. I graduated in 2000 from the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance. In addition I studied classical percussion while attending CCM. Since graduating, I have toured much of the world as the drummer and percussionist for the band WHY? (www.whywithaquestionmark.com) as well as releasing music under my own name. I have lived, taught, and performed regularly in New York City, the Bay area and my home town of Cincinnati. My goal as a teacher is to bring my students closer to understanding the many layers and intricacies of rhythm. Rhythm is a great passion of mine. I have learned over the years how best to share this passion with students of all levels. Technique and basic rhythms are taught in a methodical manner to all of my beginner students. My most advanced students will spend time working on all aspects of their playing that need honing. This could involve anything from transcribing jazz drum solos, preparing for competitions or auditions to working on their original songs. Regardless of skill level, the focus will be on playing relaxed and understanding that keeping time is the most important job for any drummer. The goal for you, the student, is to see results. There are two things that will make improvement inevitable. First the teacher must be organized and attentive to the student's goals. This means having a flexible curriculum that can move along with the student's progress. Secondly, he or she must learn the importance of practice. My students should expect to practice anywhere from 15-60 minutes a day - depending on skill level - everyday. Consistency is KEY. Feel free to email me any specific questions. For musical samples visit www.josiahwolf.com. I look forward to speaking with you. Thanks!
