My main focus as a teacher is to create a safe haven for you. I want studying with me to be a place where you can come, have fun, and explore the beautiful gift of your voice.
After almost thirty years of teaching, I still am fascinated with the human voice. Being able to reach into someone's heart by song isn't about having a "good" voice. It is about clearing obstacles so that what comes out of you is you.
I have been brought to tears by people who aren't "technically correct" and yawned at people who were.
Of course, I will teach technique and I have learned from the best. But, above that, I will teach you to trust yourself and be honest with what you are saying in song.
My singing journey started in junior high. I auditioned for chorus and wanted in so much that I didn't even look to see if I was on the list.
I always wondered if I was, because the teacher sort of stammered when she saw me.
The next year, I auditioned for the Univ. of MD Chorus. I was admitted to that as well as their chamber group and the Nat'l Symphony Chorus.
So, I began learning music under the batons of James DePriest, Antol Dorati, even Zubin Mehta.
From there, I got my BA in voice performance and theatre at UMBC, then did some work at Peabody.
I studied privately. My last teacher is a voice therapist as well as world renown singer. I had one teacher teach me absolutely what NOT to do, and this teacher has taught me more than anyone what TO do.
I have sung in numerous churches and synagogues, given recitals, am an experienced concert soloist.
Roles/Companies: Baltimore Opera, Lancaaster Opera, Baltimore Touring Opera, Peabody Opera.
My roles include Augusta in The Ballad of Baby Doe, Buttercup in H.M.S. Pinafore, Mother in Ahmal and The Night Visitors, The Witch in Hansel und Gretel.
I have directed several choirs, and been a choral director at several churches.
I also give workshops on voice an
