I started taking piano lessons at age 8, and continued throughout my school years. As a music major at Penn State University, I studied piano with Marylene Dosse for 7 years, and Harpsichord with June Miller for 4 years. I studied Piano Pedagogy with Tim Shafer.
I was active in the Penn State Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and the Early Music Ensemble, in which I played alto recorder and krumhorn. I accompanied several vocal and instrumental students on piano and harpsichord for recitals and juries. I performed a duet recital with my twin sister Bonnie for our senior project.
I have taught private piano lessons for 10 years. I accept students as young as 5, and I enjoy teaching all ages and levels (beginner through early advanced), including adult beginners and returning students.
I am a member of the PA Music Teachers Association (PMTA) and of the local chapter in Centre County, (CPMTA). I am also a founding member of a new piano teachers organization called Nittany Piano Teachers Network.
My goal as a piano teacher is to give my students a well-rounded musical education, which includes theory, sight-reading, improvising skills, good playing technique as well as opportunities to play many styles of music at the piano. I encourage my students to pick music or styles of music that they would like to learn, and I incorporate it into the lesson.
