Joan Peffer
|
|
Born into a musical family, Joan Peffer has been an active member of music communities for as long as she can remember. Originally from Southern California, she studied with pianists from that area, including Kate Whitney and Dr. Joseph Matthews. Violin studies began at the age of 8 with her aunt, Suzanne Reinecke. Other violin teachers Joan has studied with include Dr. David Margetts and Janet Rathton professors at Chapman College in Orange, CA., and Helen Pagals, a Julliard grad, whom she studied with in Olympia, WA. Joan graduated with a BA in violin performance from The Evergreen State College, in Olympia, WA. Joan’s music studies also include music theory, composition and voice. She has played in numerous instrumental ensembles and has sung in many choral ensembles throughout the years.
Upon relocating to the York area, Joan sang as a soloist for The York Oratorio Society, Asbury United Methodist Church and Zion United Methodist Church. After taking time off as a violin soloist to help raise her family, Joan has recently auditioned for and was accepted into the Matinee Musical Club of York to maintain a solo position in their recitals. She has been active in the York Music Teachers Association for 7 years.
Joan taught violin and piano for 12 years in Orange County, CA, and she is on her 12th year of teaching here in York. "I love teaching music, and it brings me great joy to watch my students progress through structured practice and self nurturing. I offer studies in technique and repertoire, music theory, memorization, sight-reading and ear training. A repertoire class once a month allows students to perform and interact with fellow students."
Joan is currently accepting students ages 5 and older, for beginner through intermediate levels in both violin or piano studies.
