What a privilege it is to share the gift of music with others. It is very rewarding!
My music background includes 4 years of private piano lessons and 7 years of piano lessons from Menchey Music in Hanover. After graduating from high school I went to Indiana for further music training. I completed about 1 - 2 years of college level Music Theory, Hymn Improvisation, & Song Writing Skills. I am currently a full-time pianist at our church. I also teach a children's bell choir at our church. I have given private piano lessons for 10 years. There have been several performances I have played for including, weddings, York Chamber Of Commerce Meeting, and a Valentines Banquet.
I LOVE to play the piano and am excited to see how quickly many children learn to play. I especially love to work with young children, but I enjoy teaching all ages & will accept anyone from 6 years or older. I do require that all students have at least completed kindergarten. I have found this helps the child grasp the music more quickly. I concentrate on teaching students the skills they will need to play any kind of music. The main area I focus on is timing. As far as books, I currently use the James Bastian series as well as implement various scale studies. For more advanced students I introduce classical works from J.S. Bach and others. If students plan to be a pianist in church or something like that, I will work with them to achieve that goal. I give 1/2 hour lessons. Students are not required to bring anything to their first lesson. As a teacher, I supply all books that are needed and then bill the parents for them.
