Nathan O. Sheffer
|
|
Nathan Sheffer is a graduate of Millersville University where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in Music. His major performance area was saxophone with a concentration in flute and clarinet. At Millersville University Nathan was the Student Director of the Jazz Program and maintained the University’s Preparatory Program. He performs frequently in the York and Lancaster areas with members of the Millersville, Lancaster, Harrisburg, Carlisle, Shippensburg and Mechanicsburg “Singer” Bands. Nathan also makes frequent appearances in the Lancaster area with the Jazz Ministers and his own quartet, Sheftet. He also performs regularly in the pit orchestra at the Ephrata Performing Arts Center. A few of his most recent shows include; The Producers, High School Musical 2, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. For the 2007-2009 marching band seasons, Nathan held the position of Assistant Director and Woodwind Instructor with the Penn Manor High School Marching Unit. Some of his awards include the Woody Herman Jazz Award, Louis Vyner Performance Scholarship, Presser Foundation Scholarship, member of the 2008 PA Intercollegiate Band and the 2009 National Intercollegiate Band. Teachers he has studied under include: Dr. Christy Banks, Dr. Anita Renfroe, Mr. Kirk Reese, Mr. Curt Sipe, Mr. Jeffrey Snyder, Mr. Thomas Stroehman and Mr. Chris Vadala. Nathan has performed under Dr. Larry McWilliams, Mr. James Campbell, Mr. Mark Camphouse, Dr. Eddie Henderson, Mr. Neil Slater and Mr. Thomas Strohman. He has also been under the direction of jazz violinist Mr. John Blake Jr., and jazz trombonist Mr. Pete McGuiness.
Since 1998 Nathan has operated a private studio where he teaches piano, saxophone, flute and clarinet. Nathan uses the traditional style of teaching in combination with Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy that “every child can.” He welcomes all ages and levels of students to join his studio.
