|
Matt Hochmiller received his Bachelor of Music (summa cum laude) in 1997 from Temple University, where he studied with Alexander Fiorillo, former pupil of the legendary Vladimir Horowitz. In 1999, he earned the Master of Music degree from the University of the Arts, where he was a student of esteemed jazz educator Don Glanden. Matt has been performing professionally throughout Central PA and beyond for more than 15 years, primarily as a freelance jazz pianist. He is featured on Dave Wilson's CD on Dreambox Media entitled "My Time," Peter Paulsen's "Change of Scenery" on Wahbo Records and Ryan Kauffman's "Three Little Words." Matt is also the music director at Providence Presbyterian Church in York. For more info about Matt, as well as audio/video samples and a performance schedule,

Matt has been an instructor at Menchey Music since 2000. His extensive studies and varied performance experience enable him to effectively teach many styles of music, including classical, jazz and pop/rock. He believes in fostering the interests of his students while cultivating their overall
understanding and appreciation of music. Piano lessons may involve instruction in
written/aural theory, improvisation, composition, arranging and sight-reading, in addition to technique and artistry.
Matt also teaches beginner through intermediate level trumpet. His studies on the instrument began at age 10 and continued through his early college years as a music education major. Private instructors included Ed Timbrell and Bill Perbetsky. Ensemble experience includes band, orchestra, jazz ensemble and small groups. Jazz being his specialty, Matt is able to teach improvisation to advanced students.

- Matt enjoys teaching both children and adults and encourages advanced and/or highly motivated individuals to contact him about scheduling 1-hour lessons.
- Matt recommends that piano students use an acoustic or digital piano for practice at home. However, a smaller electronic keyboard is generally acceptable provided it has at least 61 touch-sensitive keys.
